Claiming Your Businesses Google Places Profile

How to Claim a Google Places Profile

Established businesses that claim a Google Places profile will become "verified" listings in Google's database. This can mean increased search engine exposure, as well as the ability to add photos, videos, coupons, and more. Registering and claiming a profile with Google is free and relatively straightforward.

In order to claim your profile, you must have a mailing address. This does not have to be the same as the physical address where you conduct work.

First, sign in to the Google Places homepage with a Google Account, or create one if you don't have one. Click "Add new business," and then submit the information you want associated with your profile, including contact information, hours of operation, categories, photos, videos, and so forth.

Second, verify the listing. Google can contact you by telephone and give you a PIN number to type online, or you can choose to receive a postcard with a PIN number. Both the address and phone number must correspond to the contact information you create in the Google Places listing.

Third, wait for the listing to appear on Google. The verification process can take up to two weeks.

In some cases, you will already see your business online. If this is the case, you may still wish to verify the listing so you can keep it updated.
