Essentials of a Business Security Plan

The Internet opened doors for many business owners, but it also brought on a need for network security, and today, we have multiple ways that your business security may be compromised. Without a well-rounded security plan, it can become overwhelming, and every business will have different needs. There are, however, a few things that almost every business will benefit from: firewall, antivirus, acceptable use policy for end users, anti-spam email filters and data backup.

Firewalls should be the first line of defense for almost all users. They will filter incoming data and block things that have been deemed as suspicious before it attacks your network. If you couple this with antivirus, it will provide you with an added layer of security to stop malicious software from taking over. An anti-spam email filter will eliminate viruses because many of the viruses enter through links in emails. A spam filter will protect you from this.

When it comes to the business network, you want to create an acceptable use policy for end users. While you can create as much security as possible on the back end, it does not good if someone else creates a hole in your security. More often than not, viruses enter a network because of an end user, so it is important to educate your employees about the best practices. Lastly, you should always back up your data because if something does happen, you will be protected.
