Looking at Your IT Budget? Here’s What You Need to Consider

coins-912718_640When small business owners approach us, they often ask us, "How much does it cost for IT support?" Many companies are simply looking for the lowest price that they can get on tech support. Oftentimes, we will hear them say that if we are not the cheapest, then they will have to find someone who will be cheaper. While we understand the desire to budget, we do not recommend people use this approach. That is similar to asking how much a car costs without looking at the reliability and other factors.

We recommend looking at your business as something that will need tools. You want to look at the job before considering the costs. Second, look at the equipment because while some tools cost a little more, it will help you to accomplish the job faster. You want to have the right tool for the right job. Look at the most important areas of your business. For example, if your networking service quits working, or your printer starts misbehaving, will that have an impact on your business? If you hire the wrong support, they may have a break-fix philosophy, which can wind up costing you more money over the long term. We never recommend businesses buy the cheapest IT support possible because you tend to get what you pay for.
