Inquiring Minds…

Use Mac Lion and Windows 8 at the same time. Parallels 8 is a new version of the leading Mac utility for running Windows 8 at the same time as Mac programs. With Parallels 8, you can switch between Windows programs and Mac programs quickly and easily. It takes advantage of, and integrates, the new features in the latest Mac operating system, Mountain Lion, and Windows 8. It also works with older versions of Windows, such as Windows 7, which works well with the Mac and Parallels 8, says reviewer Walter Mossberg.

In one of Mossberg's tests, he was running either Apple Mail or iPhoto at the same time as Windows 8 programs. Scrolling and visual effects were smooth and quick. Web pages appeared at normal speed in Internet Explorer. Videos and music worked well, as did new full-screen apps in Windows 8.

Parallels can't take advantage of every Windows 8 feature, like those using a touch screen, which Mac doesn't have. But, it makes Windows 8 work on a Mac like it works on a standard Windows PC.

Auction and coupon sites are in the lime light Have you ever bid on something or printed coupons online? Most of us have tried it or do often to procure products at a cut rate price. Watch out though, fake bidding deals and coupon e-mails are hot on the spam radar.

Auction or bidding websites According to Symantec, spammers have been focused on new tactics to draw in consumers. Starting around Black Friday, bidding e-mails promising 1/2 off the retail price or more began popping up. The following websites are common in these attacks:

www.BidQuickxxxWin.com

www.BidOnlinexxxGeGreatDeals.com

E-mailed coupons are another large target disguised with special offers from major coupon services. Many of these infected messages have attachments like ZIP files named Gift coupon.exe (an executable file.) Never download executable attachments from coupon websites. The truth is, they don’t generally send executable files! Groupon seems to be the largest target in these attacks. If you receive regular coupons from Groupon and something seems different, visit their site by typing the website address into your browser to claim your coupons and avoid any malicious code from spam e-mails.

Never open or download anything you’re unsure about as it may be a trick. Trojans and malware can be attached even if the e-mail looks legitimate. If you receive a questionable e-mail of any kind, it is better to error on the side of caution. Delete the message immediately. Stay safe online!
